Kyiv reports 10 injured as Zelenskyy anticipates US envoy visit

At least 10 people, including a child and six medical personnel, were injured in a Russian attack on Kyiv on Thursday, according to the city’s military administration and Mayor Vitali Klitschko. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he expected meetings with US envoys in Kyiv in the coming days as efforts to end the war remain stalled.

Damage and further strikes reported in the capital

Klitschko said the damaged residential building was in a district just outside Kyiv’s city centre. Local media later reported new explosions, while an air raid alert remained in place more than two hours after it began.

Klitschko also said six people had been wounded in earlier strikes on the capital. Kyiv has faced more than a week of sustained attacks, according to the report.

What we know now

  • The ninth floor of a high-rise residence was damaged, and 15 people were evacuated.
  • Ukraine’s Naftogaz said Russian strikes caused significant damage to equipment at its production sites.
  • A reported death in the Kyiv attack was later withdrawn by the city’s military administration.

Separate attacks reported in Russian-controlled areas

Interfax, citing Russian-installed Horlivka Mayor Ivan Prikhodko, reported that a Ukrainian drone struck a bus in Horlivka, in the Russian-controlled part of Ukraine’s Donetsk region. The report said one person was killed and five were injured; the assertion was not independently verified.

Local authorities separately reported that a passenger bus in Russia’s Belgorod region was hit by a drone, killing one person and injuring four others. Ukraine and Russia both deny targeting civilians.

Zelenskyy says tentative dates have been set

Zelenskyy said US President Donald Trump’s special envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, had confirmed plans to hold meetings in Moscow and Kyiv. He said tentative dates had been set for their first visit to the Ukrainian capital.

The envoys have been involved in shuttle diplomacy between Russia and Ukraine and have travelled to Moscow multiple times, but had not previously visited Kyiv, according to Zelenskyy’s account.
