Two people were killed and six required hospital treatment after Russian drone attacks hit two fuel stations in Kyiv on Friday, according to Mayor Vitali Klitschko.
The stations in the Obolonskyi and Dniprovskyi districts were struck within 10 minutes of each other, shortly after air raid sirens sounded. Ukrainian authorities have warned people not to visit fuel stations when sirens are active.
Strikes reported across Ukraine
One person died at the scene and another died in hospital, Klitschko said. The attacks followed strikes on Kyiv fuel stations on Thursday, which Ukrainian authorities said suggested a new campaign focused on civilian areas in the capital.
Other Russian drone strikes overnight hit near a shopping mall in Pavlohrad, killing five people and injuring 67, according to the supplied account. Ukraine declares mourning as both sides report attacks
Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha declared Friday a day of mourning. On Thursday, he accused Russia of attacking places where people carry out daily activities in an effort to spread fear and pressure Ukrainian society.
Russia and Ukraine both deny targeting civilians. Ukraine also launched a large-scale drone attack overnight; Russia’s Ministry of Defence said its forces shot down 777 drones across 16 regions. Local authorities in Tula, south of Moscow, reported two deaths and three injuries.
