Russian missile, drone and artillery attacks across Ukraine killed eight people and injured at least 22 on Saturday, September 19, 2026, according to regional officials. Poland briefly scrambled fighter jets and raised its air-defence systems to their highest readiness during the assault, but reported no violation of its airspace.
Ukraine’s Air Force said Russia launched 174 drones and two Zircon antiship missiles overnight. It reported that 141 incoming targets were intercepted or jammed and that the Zircon missiles did not reach their targets.
Civilian casualties and damage reported across three regions
Kharkiv Governor Oleh Syniehubov said attacks on 14 settlements killed five people and injured 15. He reported heavy destruction in Balakliya and Lypkuvativka.
In Kherson, Governor Oleksandr Prokudin said shelling across 25 communities killed three people and injured five. The attacks damaged high-rise apartments, private homes, a cell tower and a gas pipeline.
Dnipropetrovsk regional administration head Oleksandr Ganzha said four areas were attacked more than 10 times with drones, artillery and aerial bombs. Two people were injured, and damage was reported at warehouses in Dnipro, an outpatient clinic in Pavlohrad, a shopping centre in Nikopol and homes in Kryvyi Rih and Synelnyky.
Russia claims strikes on Black Sea vessels
Russia’s Ministry of Defence claimed that Geran-4 Seeker loitering drones struck two commercial vessels in the Black Sea: a Ukrainian dry cargo ship travelling to Odesa and a tanker docked at the port of Odesa.
The ministry asserted that both vessels were carrying military supplies. The account was presented as a claim by Russia’s defence ministry.
Poland returns air-defence units to standard duty
Poland’s Operational Command said military flights began inside Polish airspace because of heavy Russian drone activity over neighbouring Ukraine. The operation ended shortly afterward, with aircraft, ground-based air-defence and radar units returning to standard duty. Poland said no airspace violations occurred, while its armed forces continued monitoring the area.
Russian battlefield claims
Russia’s Defence Ministry also claimed that its forces had advanced across more than 5,300 square kilometres this year, including 670 square kilometres in September. It cited progress towards Zaporizhzhia and said the heaviest fighting was near the Kramatorsk-Slovyansk urban area.
